Canadian government funds projects for settlement of new immigrants in Canada

The Federal government is taking vital steps to help new immigrants settle in Canada. These include funding of two projects to encourage new immigrants amalgamate in their communities.

One project based will be based in Ontario’s London area and will get funding amounting to $170,000 over a period of two years to enable young immigrants integrate into society. Newcomers will be paired with mentors hailing from the London area, stated MP (Member of Parliament) for London West, Ed Holder on behalf of Jason Kenney, Canadian immigration minister.

Aptly titled ‘the Ethno-Racial Mentoring Program’, the project aims to find reasons that leave several youth immigrants isolated. Hence, the aim of the government of Canada is to help young immigrants hailing from various backgrounds to involve themselves in making a stronger and happier Canada, MP Holder added.

The program is a collaborative effort of a number of London organizations to help ethnic young immigrants in northeast London. It is run by London InterCommunity Health Center and will involve 80 young immigrants with mentors to help in better integration into their communities. The program also aims to involve parents of the participants with mentors to help them take part in community events.

Hailing the efforts by Canadian government for betterment of immigrants in Canada, Coordinator of Youth Services for London InterCommunity Health Centre, Greg Nash said that the program will help youth get away from detachment to participation in community happenings.

Meanwhile, another program that will receive funding from the Government of Canada is ‘The Civic Awareness Project’. The program is aimed to help new immigrants in Canada, especially those from ethnic groups, get a better knowledge about Canada’s history and way of life and will get CA$300,000 over a period of four years.

The future of Canada will be made by not just by Canadian citizens but also by newcomers in Canada and the society of Canada can become stronger and proud only if new immigrant arrivals participate in their communities. This was stated by Colin Carrie, an MP from Oshawa.

Carrie added that the future of Canada depends on all sharing Canadian values, history and other important aspects and growing together.
